Mamma Mia! Hither We Go Again is a 2018 jukebox musical romantic comedy picture show written and directed past Ol Parker, from a story by Parker, Catherine Johnson, and Richard Curtis. It is the sequel to the 2008 movie Mamma Mia!, and the second & last film of the Mamma Mia! movie serial. which in turn is based on the musical of the same name using the music of ABBA. The film features an ensemble cast, including Dominic Cooper, Amanda Seyfried, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgård, Jeremy Irvine, Josh Dylan, Hugh Skinner, Lily James, Jessica Keenan Wynn, Alexa Davies, Christine Baranski, Julie Walters, Andy García, Meryl Streep, and Cher. Both a prequel and a sequel, the plot is set up after the events of the previous film, and is intersected with flashbacks to Donna's youth in 1979, with some scenes from the two time periods mirroring each other.

Due to the financial success of the starting time film, Universal Pictures had long been interested in a sequel. The movie was officially announced in May 2017, with Parker hired to write and direct. In June 2017, many of the original cast confirmed their interest, with James being cast in the role of Young Donna that July. Filming took place from Baronial to December 2017 in Croatia (about prominently Vis), Bordeaux, Stockholm, Oxford, Hampton and at Shepperton Studios. A British and American joint venture, the picture was co-produced by Playtone, Littlestar Productions and Legendary Entertainment.

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again was premiered at the Hammersmith Apollo in London on July 16, 2018, and was released in the Uk and the Usa on July twenty, 2018, ten years to the week after its predecessor's release, in both standard and IMAX formats.[v] The film was a box office success, grossing $402 million worldwide and received mostly positive reviews, as an improvement over its predecessor with critics praising the performances and musical numbers.[six] [seven]

In a flashback to 1979, a young Donna Sheridan graduates from Oxford'southward New College with Rosie and Tanya ("When I Kissed the Instructor"), and dreams of a Greek island named Kalokairi. Donna's mother, Cherry, is a famous singer, just she has a strained relationship with her daughter and is consistently away on bout, and does not attend the graduation. Fed upwards with her mother's constant negligence and determined to spend her life making memories, Donna decided to travel to Kalokairi to find her destiny.

In the nowadays, Rosie and Tanya arrive to back up Sophie, and she shows them the new hotel ("I Take a Dream"). Meanwhile, Nib, Harry, and Sky go out their ventures abroad to back up Sophie but are told there are no boats to Kalokairi. Still, a much older Alexio recognises Beak and offers the trio safe gunkhole passage to the island as gratitude for saving his relationship. Neb convinces the others to bring together them for a party on Kalokairi. When the guests arrive ("Dancing Queen"), Pecker and Rosie quickly reunite over their common grief over Donna's death, and Sophie reveals to Sky that she is pregnant, and she has never felt closer to her female parent.

The celebration is suddenly disrupted when Cherry-red arrives, despite Sophie having decided to not invite her. Carmine explains that Sky tracked her downwards in New York, and she wants to build a true relationship with her granddaughter. Sophie so performs with the Dynamos in laurels of Donna ("I've Been Waiting for Y'all"), much to the pride of Ruby, who expresses slight only sincere grief over her daughter's decease. Mamma Mia! Hither We Go Once again was announced on May 19, 2017, with a release date of July 20, 2018.[10] It was written and directed by Ol Parker.[xi] On September 27, 2017, Benny Andersson confirmed 3 ABBA songs that would be featured in the flick: "When I Kissed the Teacher," "I Wonder (Difference)," and "Angeleyes."[12] "I Wonder (Difference)" was cutting from the motion-picture show, just is included on the soundtrack album.

In June 2020, Judy Craymer announced that a third pic is in development, with the producer confirming that some of the new ABBA songs written for the band's reunion could feature in the soundtrack, although stating that the COVID-xix pandemic has caused delays with evolution of the project.[54] Afterwards months of postponement, ABBA released their new album Voyage in November 2021.
